How to Install 64-bit tModLoader on Your PC

tModLoader is a 32-bit program when you download and install it from Steam. This limits the RAM that it can access to 4GB, and as a result this greatly limits the number of mods you can run on your client at the same time. In order to increase the RAM (and allow you to use more mods!) you will need to install the 64-bit version of the game.

Installing 64-bit tModLoader

If you haven't already got tModLoader installed on your machine, you will need to do so first. You can view our guide on how to do this here: https://shockbyte.com/billing/knowledgebase/302/How-to-add-Mods-to-your-Terraria-Server-Using-tModLoader.html

  1. Go to the GitHub page for the project, and ensure that the version you will download is the same as the version of tModLoader you currently have installed.
  2. Click on the tModLoader64bit.zip file to download it to your PC.
  3. Once you have downloaded the files, extract them somewhere save such as your desktop or downloads folder.
  4. Once extracted, select all the files inside the folder and copy them.
  5. Find the tModLoader game in your Steam library, right-click on it, and then select Properties.
  6. Select the Installed Files tab on the left, and then click Browse.
  7. Paste the files you copied before here (and if you are prompted to overwrite any files, do so).

Launching 64-bit tModLoader

Now you have installed 64-bit tModLoader, you will need to add this new version to your steam library (if you launch tModLoader as normal it will still launch the 32-bit version).

  1. Return to your steam library, and click Add a Game... at the bottom left of the client.
  2. Select Add a Non-Steam Game, and then Browse....
  3. Locate tModLoader64bit.exe in the tModLoader files you found before, and select that.
  4. Click Add Selected Programs.

You're all set! A new game called tModLoader64bit should appear in your steam library for you to launch.
