Core Keeper's Void & Voltage update (version 1.2.0.3) is a free major content update released on February 25, 2026. It adds the mechanical Breaker's Reach biome, a Void sub-biome, two major bosses, advanced automation, new weapons and armour, Titan Shrines, Echo-Maps, new materials and expanded mod support. Several patches have landed since, and Pugstorm has now announced the three-part "Road to the Maw" roadmap that follows it.

If you thought your underground empire was already running like a well-oiled machine, Core Keeper has other ideas.

Void & Voltage takes the game in a noticeably more mechanical direction, dropping players into a late-game region packed with robots, corrupted enemies, industrial crafting stations, automated farming tools, ridiculously destructive weapons and two seriously intimidating bosses.

Originally announced for January 28 alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, the free update eventually launched on February 25, 2026 as version 1.2.0.3. PC and PlayStation got it on the day, Xbox followed a day later because of a publishing outage, and Switch and Switch 2 initially shipped with 1.2.0.2 while the later build went through certification.

Unlike an update that simply adds another place to mine slightly better ore, this one changes how you build, automate, explore and fight.

#What Is the Core Keeper Void & Voltage Update?

Void & Voltage is a free major update built around late-game exploration, machinery, automation and Void corruption.

Its biggest addition is Breaker's Reach, a new biome in the far north, home to mechanical enemies, new resources, a merchant, Titan Shrines and a sinister Void sub-biome. Back at base, new electronics and automated systems handle everything from farming to item collection.

Major additions include:

  • Breaker's Reach, a new mechanical biome, plus its Void sub-biome
  • Two major new bosses
  • The Otherworldly Merchant and three new crafting tables
  • New automation and electrical systems
  • Two legendary weapons and seven other new weapons
  • Six armour sets and six accessories
  • Relucite Ore and Corrupted Alloy
  • Six Titan Shrines and eight Echo-Maps
  • A max item level increase from 19 to 20
  • New enemies, puzzles, potions, decorations and achievements
  • Expanded modding support, including Steam Workshop mod loading

#Breaker's Reach Is the Star of Void & Voltage

Breaker's Reach feels different from the caves you've been exploring for dozens of hours. Instead of mushrooms, slime and overgrown ruins, it leans hard into machinery and constructed environments: metal, electronics, industrial structures and enough hostile robots to make you question who built all this in the first place.

#What enemies are in Breaker's Reach?

Three new robotic enemies roam the biome:

  • Geobot Miner
  • Geobot Patroller
  • Geobot Scourer

They fit the mechanical identity of the area and make Breaker's Reach feel less like a reskinned cavern and more like somewhere genuinely unfamiliar.

The biome also contains two new crafting materials, Relucite Ore and Corrupted Alloy, which feed directly into the update's new progression and crafting systems. Alongside them are three new valuables, three critters, puzzle rooms and a pile of industrial decorations.

#Don't skip the Otherworldly Merchant

Tucked away in Breaker's Reach is a new Otherworldly Merchant, and he is genuinely important rather than flavour text. Two of the update's three new workbenches, the Metalcrafter's Table and the Relucite Smithing Table, are bought from him rather than crafted, and he's also the only source of the Burn Resistance Potion. The third bench, the Advanced Automation Table, is crafted at the Octarine Workbench.

If you head north, gather a stack of Relucite and then wonder why you can't make anything with it, he's the answer.

#The Void Sub-Biome Makes Things Much Weirder

Within Breaker's Reach, sections of the world have been warped by an otherworldly corruption. Familiar Core Keeper creatures return in much nastier forms, with attack patterns considerably more chaotic than your average Caveling encounter.

The new Void enemies are:

  • Void Caveling
  • Void Caveling Brute
  • Void Caveling Shaman
  • Void Larva Cocoon
  • Void Larva

Wandering into a Void pocket without paying attention is a great way to lose a suspiciously large portion of your health bar. A new Glowing Mushroom variant grows here too, and it's worth grabbing: cooked, it hands out a hefty explosion damage buff that pairs nicely with the update's new toys.

#Two New Bosses Are Waiting for a Fight

#S.A.H.A.B.A.R.

S.A.H.A.B.A.R. is the update's enormous mechanical boss and the headline encounter in Breaker's Reach. Think giant robot, targeted energy attacks, lasers, and a fight where standing still for too long isn't going to end well. It gives geared-up groups a major target once they've started working through the region.

#Oblidra the Void Lord

The second boss is Oblidra the Void Lord, a new Void Hydra also found in Breaker's Reach. If you've fought Core Keeper's other Hydra encounters, you already know not to expect a relaxing afternoon. Oblidra also drops Oblidra's Heart, which grants a permanent +70 max health the first time you eat it, so the fight is worth doing even after the loot stops being new.

Between them, the two fights give endgame players a reason to rethink their builds and convince that one friend who always disappears during boss prep to actually show up.

#Automation Is One of the Biggest Upgrades

For players who spend as much time optimising their base as exploring, this is the best part of the update. The Advanced Automation Table unlocks a much larger collection of automated systems and electronics:

  • Conveyor Belt Splitter
  • Item Collector
  • Robot Farm Arm
  • Seed Extractor
  • Shredder and Incinerator
  • Fishing Net and Critter Catcher
  • Explorer and Enemy Proximity Sensors
  • Electrical Drop Gate
  • Kinematic Dynamo and Lowered Electricity Generator
  • T, L and I Circuits

Robot Arms can now filter items too, giving anyone obsessed with perfectly organised production lines another excuse to rebuild their base at 2 AM. Automated systems also now have a base chance to plant golden crops, the same as the player, so your farm loops aren't strictly worse than doing it by hand anymore.

One change worth knowing before you rebuild: your item pickup radius is now blocked by doors and walls. Some older sorting setups that quietly relied on vacuuming items through a wall will need adjusting.

#What should you automate first?

  1. Farming. The Seed Extractor and Robot Farm Arm cut down manual crop work fastest.
  2. Item movement. Item Collectors and Conveyor Belt Splitters make larger systems easier to organise.
  3. Disposal. Shredders and Incinerators deal with unwanted materials.
  4. Sensors. Proximity Sensors make doors, defences and other electrical builds reactive.
  5. Everything at once. Connect it all together and turn the base into an underground factory.

#New Weapons, Armour and Gear Give You Plenty to Chase

Fancy machinery isn't much use if you can't occasionally turn it into something that explodes. Void & Voltage adds two legendary weapons, Credence of Ruin and Titan Breath, plus seven more:

  • Flamethrower
  • Scrap Minigun
  • Stone Mortar
  • Volcano Mortar
  • Void Club
  • Blast Bundle
  • Oil Grenade

The last two are throwables rather than held weapons, and they pair with the new Remote Explosive Pack and Remote Boom Clicker if you'd rather place charges and detonate them from a distance. Flammable ground oil is now a thing too, which combines with the Flamethrower exactly the way you're imagining.

There are also six armour sets (Inventor, Welder, Shadow, Dreamer, Void-Fused and, yes, Pajama), six accessories including the Magnet and Minion Kindler, a Summoning Tome that calls in a mining minion, and three potions: Mana, Greater Mana and Burn Resistance. Max item level has gone from 19 to 20, so the whole top end of your gear has room to grow.

Two balance notes matter here: enemy shields now block explosion damage, and friendly explosion damage between teammates has been reduced, making the mortars and grenades far less of a liability in co-op.

#Titan Shrines Make Progression Easier to Follow

One of the quieter additions could be the most useful. There are now six Titan Shrines pointing players toward the next stage of progression. The Core guides you to them, and at each one you can craft scanners and summoning items and unlock a waypoint. That's welcome in a game where it's easy to get distracted by mining, fishing and redecorating your kitchen, then realise you haven't progressed in six hours. Eight Echo-Maps help too, marking important locations around the world.

If you already had a long-running world before the update, you're not left behind. Titan Shrines can be added to older worlds through a new Content Bundle in the world settings screen, which matters a lot for groups with hundreds of hours in one save.

#There Are Plenty of Smaller Changes Too

Version 1.2.0.3 also shipped 17 puzzle rooms, more than 20 decoration pieces, four achievements, ten enemy and boss figurines, and two new Dirt biome tracks ("Mysteries Uncovered" and "Light From Above"). You can now multi-select when trashing items, the Bait Workbench became the Fishing Workbench with Baits renamed to Lures, and the Hand Mortar is now the Scrapzooka.

Modders got the big one: Core Keeper can now load mods from Steam Workshop, backed by an official modding guide at modding.corekeepergame.com.

#What's Changed Since Launch

Void & Voltage hasn't sat still. Patches through spring and summer 2026 added chest labelling, dedicated Potion and Critter Pouches, and a Casual character type that keeps inventory on death, drains hunger more slowly and has larger parry windows. The most recent build at the time of writing is 1.2.1.5.

#What's Coming After Void & Voltage

In August 2026, Pugstorm announced Road to the Maw, a set of three connected major updates rather than one enormous release:

  • Riders of the Underground (1.3.0) brings a new means of transport, more weapons, monsters and pets, and changes aimed at magic and summoner playstyles.
  • Trials of the Depths is pitched at veterans who enjoy diving head-first into trouble.
  • Beyond the Breach finally does something with that mysterious item S.A.H.A.B.A.R. drops, opening up whatever sits past Breaker's Reach. The developers call it a pivotal moment for the game.

So Breaker's Reach isn't the end of the map. It's the doorstep.

#Why Void & Voltage Is Even Better With Friends

Core Keeper already works brilliantly as a game where one person fights bosses, another builds increasingly unnecessary conveyor systems, and somebody else vanishes for three hours because they found a fishing spot. Void & Voltage plays into that: somewhere dangerous for the explorers, new systems for the builders, two endgame fights for everyone else.

If your group wants a world that stays available even when the original host is offline, reliable Core Keeper server hosting makes long-running multiplayer worlds much easier to manage. Everyone can jump in, work on the base, gather resources or prep for the next boss without waiting for one specific player to launch the save. With an update this focused on persistent progression, and three more on the way, that setup makes a lot of sense.

#Is the Core Keeper Void & Voltage Update Worth Returning For?

If you already enjoy Core Keeper, absolutely.

The update doesn't throw away the mining, exploration, crafting and boss-fighting loop that made the game popular. It gives that loop a new mechanical theme and adds systems that stay useful long after the new bosses are dead. Automation in particular removes a lot of the grind from maintaining a huge base, and the new weapons give you increasingly unreasonable ways of dealing with whatever survives.

With Road to the Maw confirmed, it's also the on-ramp to the next stretch of the game rather than a dead end. If your old underground base has been gathering dust, this is a good excuse to switch the lights back on.
