How to Install Shaders onto your Minecraft Client using Iris

Minecraft Shaders modify the visual graphics of Minecraft by adding more realistic animations and textures to the game. Most shaders accomplish this by sending rays of light through blocks to create realistic effects on the world.

Iris is a Fabric mod that builds upon the optimizations provided by Sodium while retaining compatibility with many popular Fabric mods and existing shader packs.

#Installing Shaders with Iris

After downloading your preferred shader pack, you must install the Iris mod. You'll then be able to use your newly downloaded shader pack in Minecraft.

If you do not have a shader pack already installed, you can find and download one from Minecraft Shaders website.

1. Download the installer from the official Iris website, and run it.

2. Select your desired Minecraft version and ensure the Install Directory matches Minecraft’s profile location on your computer.

3. Click Install.

4. Open the Minecraft Launcher and select your new Iris Profile.

5. Click Play; Once in-game, navigate to Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs...

6. Open the Shaders Folder, and move your previously downloaded shader pack into it.

7. In Minecraft, enable shaders and select your desired shader pack; Click Apply.

Once your shaderpack finishes loading, you should see the changes applied to your game! Feel free to play around with the shaderpack configuration options in the menu as well; however, leaving them as their defaults usually provides the best effect.
