#Updating an Existing Server
Updating your server to Minecraft 1.18 is as simple as selecting a new server type on the control panel! Before making any changes to your server, we recommend making a backup.
For the best experience, we recommend creating a brand-new world. You can either reset your server completely or create a new world to switch to.

Updating an existing world to 1.18 is safer than previous versions. If you keep the old world, the update will only overwrite the void (y=0 and lower) and generate the new terrain. Beyond that, only the new chunks will be affected by the updated terrain generation.
