How to Update Modpacks Installed on Your Server
Modpacks are quite complicated bits of software, usually with lots of different mods all interacting with one another. This means that there are occasional updates to the modpacks to ensure that you are receiving the mods' up-to-date gameplay on your server. Unfortunately, there is currently no way for us to update the mod packs on your server automatically. As such, this guide will explain how you can do it manually so you can get back to playing with your friends as quickly as possible! --- Getting Started The first step to updating your mod pack is checking whether it needs an update. The best way to do this would be to simply Google the modpack and check whether the version you have installed on your server is the latest version. To update your server in the safest and easiest way, we will need to first reset/delete all of your server files. Make sure to download a copy of your world to your PC first. ::ProseNote{title="Warning" description="There is a chance that the world will become corrupt when you re-upload it to your server. When this happens, you may have to start again with a new world. We recommend that you frequently make backups of your world in case this happens." appearance="error"} :: Resetting your Server You can reset your server within your Files Manager on your control panel. 1. Login to your control panel and Stop your server. 2. Navigate to the Backups tab on the left side menu and create a backup. 3. After creating the backup, download it to access and reupload your world file later. 4. Once you have created and downloaded the backup, go to the Files tab. 5. Click on the Checkbox next to File Manager and then click Delete. 6. A window will appear; click on Delete if you wish to proceed with deleting your server files. 7. Start your server to redownload the default server files. --- Reinstalling the Modpack To reinstall the modpack on your server, simply follow our guides on installing a modpack on your server, and then upload your previous world. Congratulations, your server will now be updated to the latest version of your chosen modpack! If, for some reason, updating your server's modpack corrupts your world, you can restore your backup by reverting your server modpack version and following this guide.
How to Uninstall Plugins on a Minecraft Server
You may need to uninstall plugins if you find they are causing errors or crashes, conflict with other plugins you have installed, or don't function in the way that you expected. Luckily, removing plugins only requires stopping the server, deleting the plugin files, and starting your server again. --- Uninstalling Plugins Manually uninstalling plugins is as simple as stopping your server, navigating to your plugins folder, and deleting the plugin jar file you no longer want. You can save plugin data by not deleting the plugin's folder. However, if you would like to fully remove the plugin and its data, you will need to delete its folder along with the jar file. If you installed your plugin from the Shockbyte Panel Plugins page, you can uninstall it there as well. 1. Open your server's Control Panel and Stop your server. 2. Open the Files tab. 3. Select the folder. 4. Tick the plugin file(s) you want to remove, then click Delete. To delete a plugin, you will need to delete the plugin's jar file. If you would like to remove the plugin's data too, delete its plugin folder as well. 5. Start or Restart your server if it is already running. That's it! After the server boots up, the plugin will be removed from your server.
How to Uninstall Mods on a Minecraft Server
Sometimes you may need to remove a specific mod from your server due to errors it generates. A common reason to remove a mod is due to incompatibilities with other mods on your server. If you are using an official modpack, we highly recommend contacting the modpack creator for support instead of deleting mods you believe cause the issue. Click the folder to open it 3. Tick the box of the mods you wish to remove, then click the Delete button. 4. Restart your server. That's it! When your server next boots up, the mods will be removed.
How to Trim your World Using MCA Selector
If you have a large Minecraft world, there may come a point when you wish to trim your world. Trimming your world will allow new chunks to be generated in the affected area. This helps trim the world size if it's too big. Also, this is a great way to remove corrupted chunks. Regardless of the reason why you want to trim your world, the MCA Selector tool is a great way to accomplish world trimming. --- Installing the MCA Selector Tool 1. Navigate to the MCA Selector GitHub page 2. Click the Download Version X.X (Windows Installer) link 3. Once the installer finishes downloading, right-click it and click Run as Administrator 4. Click Run Anyway, then follow the setup steps from the installation wizard --- Trimming a World Using the MCA Selector Before you load your world into the tool and start trimming, we highly recommend you generate a backup of your world first! 1. Navigate to the File tab and click Open World, then locate and select your desired world folder 2. Hold left-click to drag and select the chunks you would like to keep in your world 3. Navigate to the Selection tab, then click Invert 4. Go back to the Selection tab, then click Delete Selected Chunks This will delete all the chunks highlighted in orange. After it processes, you have successfully trimmed your world. Next time you load into this world, it will start regenerating the affected chunks using the MCA world generator version of the world.
How to Trim your Minecraft World (using WorldBorder Plugin)
Using the WorldBorder plugin for Spigot or Paper, you can trim out chunks of your Minecraft server world that are outside of your configured border using commands. If you don’t already have WorldBorder installed on your server, you’ll need to install it in order to follow the steps in this tutorial. You can download the WorldBorder plugin from the SpigotMC website, then follow our tutorial on installing Minecraft plugins. --- Trimming your World As an operator (OP), you can use commands to trim your world. The command to trim a world is: . You can replace with the name of the world you want to trim. If you don’t specify a world name, the current world you are in will be used. Replace with the number of chunks per second WorldBorder will try to check for and trim off. For optimal performance, set this number to 20 or lower. A lower number will take longer, but will reduce lag on your server. Replace with a number representing the buffer to add beyond your border. The default is 208 and is suitable for most servers. How to Take a Timings Report on your Minecraft Server
A timings report is a diagnostic tool on Spigot, Paper and SpongeForge servers that provides a detailed breakdown of server performance. It is often used to diagnose where server lag is coming from and is an extremely useful tool for managing your server. For many, it can be challenging to read timings reports. This is perfectly normal – at a first glance, it can appear to just be a sea of numbers and colours. Connect to your Server 2. When experiencing the performance issues on your server, enter the command . 3. You will see a message appear in the chat – after this message appears, wait for at least ten minutes. The timings report is being taken in the background! 4. After around 10-15 minutes, issue the command . 5. A link will appear in the chat – this is your timings report! --- How to Take a Timings Report in SpongeForge You can take a timings report by using the command when connected to your SpongeForge server. 1. Connect to your server. 2. As soon as you are experiencing performance issues on your server, issue the command . 3. Wait at least 10 minutes before issuing the command . Waiting for 10 minutes gives us the most accurate representation of where your server isn't performing so well. 4. How to Switch Your Minecraft Server to PaperMC/PaperSpigot
Switching your instance to PaperMC is one of the best choices when optimizing to get the most performance out of your Minecraft server. The PaperMC project was started to implement many improvements and optimizations to Spigot. It implements many new config options, API improvements, and scripts to enhance a server's performance. --- Creating a New Instance You can simply set up a new Minecraft instance in your control panel. This keeps your old server files while allowing you to start fresh and switch between instances easily. 1. Access your Control Panel and Stop your server. 2. Navigate to Instances. 3. Click Create New to make a new Instance. 4. Navigate through the Instance setup wizard by selecting Paper server type, desired version and a name & description. Once done, click Finish. 5. Set the active instance by clicking Switch. 6. Restart your server. --- Updating an Existing Instance If you wish to keep your current server files but switch over to a Paper server, you can edit an existing instance in your server control panel. 1. Access your Control Panel and Stop your server. 2. Select Edit Server Type. 3. Click on the Paper server type and click Next Step. 4. Select a version and then click on Next Step. 5. Click on Finish and then Restart your server. 6. Updating the Nether and End If you have progress in the Nether and End dimensions, they will need to be converted to the new server type.
