How to Adjust Custom Game Settings on Your Enshrouded Server

Custom Game Settings let you change how your Enshrouded world plays. You can make enemies tougher or weaker, speed up crafting and plant growth, adjust how much XP players earn, and change the length of each day and night. You can turn off weapon durability, pacify enemies for a relaxed building server, or turn on starvation for a harder survival challenge. You can adjust every setting from the Settings tab on the Shockbyte Panel, so you don't need to edit the server's configuration file by hand. --- Turning On Custom Game Settings Your server uses a Game Settings Preset to decide which settings apply. To use your own values, you need to set the preset to Custom first. 1. Navigate to the Shockbyte Control Panel and open your Enshrouded server. 2. Click Stop to shut down your server and open the Settings tab. 3. Under Server, select Enshrouded Server Settings. 4. Make sure Simple view is selected in the top right. 5. Find Game Settings Preset and select Custom from the dropdown. 6. Scroll down and click Game Settings (Custom) to expand the section. 7. Change the settings you which to have on your server. (The tables below explain each one.) 8. Save your changes. 9. Click Start Server to start your server with the new settings. ::ProseNote{title="Important" description="Your server ignores the Game Settings (Custom) section unless the Game Settings Preset is set to Custom. If your changes don't apply, check the preset first." appearance="danger"} :: --- How Factor Settings Work Most settings use a factor. A factor of 1 keeps the game's normal value, which Enshrouded shows in-game as 100%. A factor of 2 doubles the value (200%), and a factor of 0.5 halves it (50%). Each factor setting has a minimum and maximum value. The panel shows these limits under each setting, and the tables below list them too. --- Player Settings | Setting | What it does | Min / Max | | ----- | ----- | ----- | | Player Health Factor | Scales the max health for players. | 0.25 / 4 | | Player Mana Factor | Scales the max mana for players. | 0.25 / 4 | | Player Stamina Factor | Scales the max stamina for players. | 0.25 / 4 | | Player Body Heat Factor | Scales how much body heat players have. A smaller value gives a shorter day. | 2 min / 60 min | | Night Time Duration | Sets the length of nighttime. A smaller value gives a shorter night. | 2 min / 60 min | --- Converting Minutes to Nanoseconds The configuration uses nanoseconds for Day Time Duration, Night Time Duration, and From Hunger To Starving, while the game shows these times in minutes. One minute equals 60,000,000,000 nanoseconds, so you multiply the number of minutes you want by 60,000,000,000. | Minutes | Value to enter | | ----- | ----- | | 2 | 120000000000 | | 5 | 300000000000 | | 10 | 600000000000 | | 12 | 720000000000 | | 15 | 900000000000 | | 20 | 1200000000000 | | 30 | 1800000000000 | | 45 | 2700000000000 | | 60 | 3600000000000 | ::ProseNote{title="Note" description="Enter the number without commas or spaces. How to Change the Permission Group Settings on Your Enshrouded Server

Permission Groups control what each player can do on your Enshrouded server. Every group has its own password, and the password a player enters when joining decides which group they belong to. You can give trusted friends full building rights, let your admins kick and ban troublemakers, and limit visitors to exploring without touching your base. With the Enshrouded 1.0 release, you can manage your Permission Groups from the Settings tab on the Shockbyte Panel, so you don't need to edit the server's configuration file by hand. --- How Permission Groups Work Your server comes with two Permission Groups, and you can add more if you need them. Each group has a name, a password, a set of permissions, and a number of reserved slots. When a player joins your server, Enshrouded asks them for a password. The server places them in the group that matches the password they enter, and they receive that group's permissions for the session. To move a player into a different group, give them that group's password and ask them to rejoin. ::ProseNote{title="Note" description="Enshrouded 1.0 lets players who host a game from inside the game client promote or demote other players in-game. This option isn't available on dedicated servers. On your Shockbyte server, the password a player joins with always decides their permissions." appearance="note"} :: --- Permission Settings Explained Each Permission Group has the same eight settings. You set the toggles to on (blue) or off (grey). | Setting | What it does | | ----- | ----- | | Name | Sets the display name for the group, such as Admin, Friend, or Guest. | | Password | Sets the password players enter to join this group. Click Generate to create a random password. | | Can Kick / Ban | Lets members remove or ban players from the server. | | Can Access Inventories | Lets members open chests and containers that other players own. | | Can Edit World | Lets members change terrain outside of base claims. | | Can Edit Base | Lets members build and destroy inside existing base claims. | | Can Extend Base | Lets members expand base boundaries and place new claims. | | Reserved Slots | Holds this number of server slots for members of the group, so they can join when the server is busy. | --- Changing Your Permission Group Settings You can change any group's settings in a few steps. We recommend stopping your server first so your changes apply cleanly when it starts again. 1. Navigate to the Shockbyte Control Panel and open your Enshrouded server. 2. Click Stop to shut down your server and open the Settings tab. 3. Under Server, select Enshrouded Server Settings. 4. Make sure Simple view is selected in the top right. 5. Click the eye icon to show or hide the password. - Click each toggle to turn a permission on or off. - Use the arrows or type a number to set Reserved Slots. 7. Save your changes. 8. Click Start Server to start your server with the new settings. ::ProseNote{title="Important" description="If two groups share the same password, players can land in the wrong group, so give every group its own password." appearance="danger"} :: --- Adding or Removing a Permission Group You can add extra groups if two aren't enough, such as a separate group for builders or VIP players. To add a group: 1. Open the Permission Group section in your Enshrouded Server Settings. 2. Scroll to the bottom of the section and click Add +. 3. Fill in the new group's name, password, permissions, and reserved slots. 4. Save your changes and restart your server. To remove a group: 1. Open the Permission Group section in your Enshrouded Server Settings. 2. Click the X in the top right corner of the group you want to remove. 3. Save your changes and restart your server. Players who used a removed group's password won't be able to join with it anymore. Send them the password for their new group. --- Joining Your Server With a Group Password Once your groups are set up, send each player the password for the group you want them in. Players join your server like this: 1. Launch Enshrouded and click Play, then select Join from the main menu. 2. Select the Dedicated Servers tab, then search for your server's name. 3. Select your server and enter the group password when the game asks for it. If a player enters the wrong password, the server won't let them join. ::ProseNote{title="Note" description="Please note your server may take a few minutes to appear in the server browser on initial startup." appearance="note"} :: --- Troubleshooting - My changes didn't apply. Your server reads its settings when it starts. Restart your server after saving any change to your Permission Groups. - A player has the wrong permissions. Check which password they used to join. Give them the correct group's password and ask them to rejoin. - A player can't join with their password. Confirm the password matches the one in the panel exactly, including capital letters. If you changed or removed the group, send them the new password. - I want to edit the settings as code. Click Text editor in the top right of the Enshrouded Server Settings page. How to Add Admins to Your Enshrouded Server

Admins on your Enshrouded server can kick and ban players, open any chest, and build anywhere in the world. Enshrouded doesn't use admin commands or an admin list. Instead, you create an Admin Permission Group with its own password, and anyone who joins with that password gets admin permissions. You can set up your Admin group from the Settings tab on the Shockbyte Panel in a few minutes. --- Setting Up Your Admin Group 1. Navigate to the Shockbyte Control Panel and open your Enshrouded server. 2. Click Stop to shut down your server and open the Settings tab. 3. Under Server, select Enshrouded Server Settings. 4. Make sure Simple view is selected in the top right. 5. Scroll down and click Permission Group to expand the section. 6. Click the eye icon to show the password so you can copy it. - Turn on Can Kick / Ban, Can Access Inventories, Can Edit World, Can Edit Base, and Can Extend Base. - Set Reserved Slots to 1 or more, so your admins can join when the server is full. 7. Save your changes. 8. Click Start Server to start your server with the new settings. ::ProseNote{title="Important" description="Anyone with the Admin password can kick and ban players on your server. Share it only with people you trust, and make sure it differs from every other group's password." appearance="danger"} :: --- Joining as an Admin Send the Admin password to each person you want to make an admin. They join your server like this: 1. Launch Enshrouded and click Play, then select Join from the main menu. 2. Select the Dedicated Servers tab, then search for your server's name. 3. Select your server and enter the Admin password when the game asks for it. If a player is already on your server with a different password, ask them to leave and rejoin with the Admin password. --- Removing an Admin You can't remove a single player from the Admin group. To remove admin access, change the Admin group's password, restart your server, and send the new password only to the admins you want to keep. ::ProseNote{title="Note" description="Enshrouded 1.0 lets players who host from inside the game client promote and demote players in-game. Dedicated servers don't support this, so the password a player joins with always decides whether they're an admin." appearance="note"} :: --- For more control over what each group can do, including adding groups for friends or guests, see our guide on How to Change the Permission Group Settings on Your Enshrouded Server. How To Make Your Enshrouded Server Private

You can make your Enshrouded server private by setting a password on every Permission Group. Enshrouded doesn't have a single server password. Instead, each group has its own password, and the password a player enters when joining decides which group they belong to. If any group has an empty password, anyone can join your server and receive that group's permissions. Once every group has a password, only players you've shared a password with can get in. --- Making Your Server Private 1. 6. Check the Password field of every Permission Group. For each group with an empty password, click Generate to create a secure password, or enter your own. 7. Save your changes. 8. Click Start Server to start your server with the new settings. ::ProseNote{title="Important" description="Give every group a different password. If two groups share the same password, players can land in the wrong group and get the wrong permissions." appearance="danger"} :: --- Sharing Access With Your Players Your server still appears in the Enshrouded server browser, but players need a password to join. Send each player the password for the group you want them in. For example, give your friends the password for a group that can build, and keep the Admin password for yourself and people you trust. Players join your server like this: 1. Launch Enshrouded and click Play, then select Join from the main menu. 2. Select the Dedicated Servers tab, then search for your server's name. 3. Select your server and enter their group password when the game asks for it. --- Making Your Server Public Again To let anyone join, clear the password on one Permission Group, save your changes, and restart your server. Players who join without a password receive that group's permissions, so turn off any permissions you don't want strangers to have, such as Can Kick / Ban and Can Access Inventories. ::ProseNote{title="Note" description="If someone you no longer want on your server knows a password, change that group's password, restart your server, and send the new password to the players you want to keep." appearance="note"} :: --- To learn more about what each group can do, see our guide on How to Change the Permission Group Settings on Your Enshrouded Server.
