To get the Mermaid Pendant in Stardew Valley, you need to be in a rainy season, have upgraded your farmhouse once, reached 10 hearts with a romanceable villager, and repaired the beach bridge. Once these conditions are met, the Old Mariner will appear on the beach between 6am–7pm to sell it for 5,000g.

#What Is the Mermaid Pendant?

The Mermaid’s Pendant is Stardew Valley’s version of an engagement ring. Once you’ve fallen in love with a villager and built a strong enough relationship, this magical pendant is what lets you propose marriage.

It’s not something you’ll find at Pierre’s or JojaMart. You’ll need to do a bit of work (and wait for a rainy day) to find it — but hey, true love is worth the grind.

By the way, if you're wondering which person you should propose to and want the ultimate Stardew Valley Marriage Guide, we have the perfect blog waiting just for you!

#Requirements to Get the Mermaid Pendant

You can’t just grab the Mermaid Pendant early on — there are several specific things you need to do first. Here’s everything that has to be in place before the Old Mariner will even consider selling it to you.

#1. Reach 10 Hearts with a Marriage Candidate

  • You’ll first need to pick someone to marry.

  • Give them a Bouquet (unlocked after reaching 8 hearts) to start dating.

  • Keep building the relationship until you hit 10 hearts.

  • Make sure you’ve talked to them and gifted them consistently.

Tip: Use loved gifts to speed up heart levels. Every villager has specific items they adore!

#2. Upgrade Your Farmhouse (Once)

  • Head to Robin’s Carpenter Shop.

  • Select the first house upgrade, which costs:

a. 10,000g

b. 450 Wood

  • This upgrade adds a kitchen and a double bed — and yes, the bed is necessary for marriage!

If you haven’t upgraded your house yet, the Old Mariner will say: "I can see that sparkle in yer eye, lad/miss. But I'm afraid a bigger house is essential for a happy marriage."

#3. Repair the Bridge at the Beach

  • Head to the right side of the beach (near Elliott’s cabin).

  • You’ll find a broken bridge that requires 300 wood to repair.

  • Fixing this opens up access to the Tide Pools, where the Old Mariner appears.

#4. Wait for Rain

The Old Mariner only appears on rainy days, between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM — and only after you’ve completed the above steps.

Important Notes:

  • Winter Exception: It doesn’t rain in Winter — unless you use a Rain Totem.

  • Night Market Conflict: Even if it's raining, the Old Mariner won’t appear during the Night Market (Winter 15–17).

#Where to Get the Mermaid Pendant in Stardew Valley

Once you’ve met all the conditions, here’s exactly where and how to find it:

#Location: Tide Pools (East Beach)

  1. Wait for a rainy day (Spring has the most rain).

  2. Enter the beach between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

  3. Walk across the repaired bridge to the Tide Pools.

  4. You’ll find the Old Mariner — a mysterious NPC in a hooded cloak.

  5. Speak to him, and he’ll offer to sell you the Mermaid Pendant for 5,000g.

“I’ve got this old amulet to sell… but somethin’ tells me yer not ready for it, lad/miss.” — What he’ll say if you don’t meet the requirements.

#What Happens After You Buy the Pendant?

Once you’ve got the Mermaid Pendant in your inventory, you’re ready to propose!

#How to Propose:

  1. Walk up to your chosen villager.

  2. Right-click on them with the pendant in hand.

  3. If they accept, they’ll say yes and the wedding will be set for three days later.

#Post-Proposal:

  • The wedding takes place in a heartwarming ceremony.

  • Your spouse will move in with you.

  • Married life comes with unique dialogue, schedule changes, and bonus help around the farm.

#Can You Get Another Pendant?

Yes, but only in certain situations:

#You can buy another Mermaid Pendant if:

  • You divorce your spouse (visit Lewis’ house to file for 50,000g).

  • You’re engaged but want to propose to someone else (but don’t get cold feet too often).

#You cannot buy another if:

  • You’re already married.

  • You haven’t met the previous conditions again (post-divorce).

Fun fact: If you try to give the pendant while already married, villagers will call you out — and it’s hilariously awkward.

#FAQs About the Mermaid Pendant

#Can you get the Mermaid Pendant in Winter?

Not naturally — it never rains in Winter. You’ll need to use a Rain Totem to force rain and summon the Old Mariner.

You can’t buy a new pendant unless you divorce your current spouse.

#Can I use it more than once?

Yes — but only after divorce or if you're re-engaging. Otherwise, one pendant per proposal.

Nope. It’s a special-use item, not a regular gift. Villagers will reject it unless it’s a marriage proposal.
