DayZ Badlands released on October 15, 2026, for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. The paid expansion adds Nasdara, a 267 km² desert province with sandstorms, scarce water, rebuildable structures and new wildlife. It arrived alongside the free Update 1.30, which brought motorbikes to every DayZ map.

Here are the highlights:

  • You need the base game DayZ to play Badlands. It isn’t a standalone game.
  • The standard price is approximately $24.99 USD. The 10% launch discount ran until October 29, 2026.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 players wait until Q1 2027.
  • Players need the expansion to join a Nasdara server. Update 1.30 itself is free.

#When Is DayZ Badlands Coming Out?

The DayZ Badlands release date was October 15, 2026. Bohemia Interactive confirmed the date in a Steam announcement on August 27 and shipped on schedule, with Steam switching to the 1.30 build shortly after 10:00 UTC on launch day. The expansion is live on Steam, the Microsoft Store for Xbox and the PlayStation Store, where Bohemia sells it as an add-on for the PS4 version of DayZ that PS5 owners play through backward compatibility.

Badlands launched alongside the wider DayZ 1.30 update, and that distinction affects what you’re paying for. Buying Badlands unlocks Nasdara. Motorbikes, redrawn inventory icons and the other base-game changes in the launch trailer came with the free update, so you get those whether you buy the expansion or not.

#When Does DayZ Badlands Come Out on Nintendo Switch 2?

Bohemia’s launch announcement gives the Nintendo Switch 2 version a Q1 2027 release window, meaning January through March 2027. DayZ itself reached Switch 2 on August 20, 2026, as the DayZ Cool Edition, which bundles the base game with Frostline and includes content up to the 1.29 Road to Badlands update. Bohemia hasn’t named a day for Badlands on Switch 2, so treat the October 15 date as PC, Xbox and PlayStation only.

#What Is DayZ Badlands?

DayZ Badlands is a paid expansion for DayZ from Bohemia Interactive, and the second paid expansion after Frostline. Its main addition is Nasdara Province, a desert map set west of Chernarus on the frontier of Takistan, with its own environmental threats, equipment and locations. You need the base game to play it.

Where Frostline sends survivors into Sakhal’s freezing winter, Badlands puts heat, dust and water shortages at the center of survival. Bohemia describes Nasdara’s arid spring as completing DayZ’s cycle of seasons, after autumn in Chernarus, summer in Livonia and winter in Sakhal. Infrastructure damaged by wars that predate the outbreak makes an already harsh environment harder to live in.

The appeal is learning how to survive somewhere unfamiliar. That distant settlement might hold useful supplies, but reaching it is half the problem.

#How Much Does DayZ Badlands Cost?

Bohemia announced an approximate standard price of $24.99 USD, with regional pricing applying. The expansion launched with a 10% discount, bringing it to approximately $22.50 on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation until October 29, 2026. After that, expect the standard price outside seasonal sales.

There’s also the Hot & Cool Bundle, which combines Badlands and Frostline for players who already own DayZ. The bundle carries its own discount, and Steam only charges you for the expansion you’re missing if you own the other. Compare it against buying each expansion separately.

Before buying, check the edition, platform and included content. In particular, don’t mistake an expansion bundle for a copy of the base game. On PC, Badlands shares the base game’s system requirements on Steam, so if DayZ runs on your machine today, Nasdara will too.

#How Big Is the DayZ Badlands Map?

Nasdara covers 267 km², making it the largest official DayZ map at launch. Bohemia built it specifically for DayZ, and it’s fully inland, with sand to the east, mountains to the west and no coastline. For comparison, Chernarus covers about 230 km², Livonia 163 km² and Sakhal 83 km².

Nasdara offers more than empty sand. You’ll find dense cities, abandoned historical sites, military bases, oil drills and refineries, and highways running east to west. Bohemia also points to large evacuation zones and sprawling desert plains, so you have several very different types of location to investigate.

Much of the setting’s character comes from the wars that damaged it before the infection, and that history shows up in the buildings and infrastructure you pass through.

For your first session, explore a manageable area instead of attempting a cross-map expedition. Learn where you can find shelter and water before you commit to the distant landmark that caught your eye.

#What New Features Does DayZ Badlands Add?

The new map is the headline attraction, but the survival systems give you reasons to approach it differently.

#Heat, Sandstorms and Water Shortages

Nasdara introduces sandstorms and three new medical conditions: heatstroke, silicosis and irritated eyes. Water is scarce, and you need it for more than hydration. It also cools you down and rinses sand from your eyes after a storm, and Update 1.30 added wash-face and wet-clothing actions to support that.

Plan around water from the start. Finding another weapon won’t save you on an exposed journey with an empty bottle. The expansion adds a waterskin for carrying more, along with protective gear suited to the region: face wraps, dust goggles, keffiyehs, lightweight clothing and desert camouflage. Your usual approach to gearing up may need a rethink when heat and dust are the problem.

#Rebuildable Houses, Wells and Irrigation Tunnels

Nasdara contains nearly 5,000 rebuildable mud and stone structures, including houses, wells and the entrances to irrigation tunnels. Rebuilding lets you restore shelter and infrastructure, and the condition of each structure differs from server to server.

A working well is the clearest example of how this changes group play. Repairing one helps every survivor nearby, and it also makes the surrounding area worth controlling. Groups get a choice: cooperate on something everyone needs, or compete over access to it. Digital code locks let you secure what you’ve rebuilt. They run on a 9V battery and lock out repeated wrong guesses, but a flat battery unlocks the door, so keep a spare.

For a community server, a rebuilding project makes a useful shared objective, assuming everyone stays friendly long enough to finish it.

#Radio Signals and Underground Bunkers

Personal radios have a new use in Badlands. Morse code transmissions carry coordinates and access codes for urban bunkers, giving you clues to follow when searching for underground loot. You decipher the signal, find the location and track down the entrance.

For a small group, that sounds like a good excuse to organize an expedition, and the new motorbikes make covering the distance faster. Agree on who’s keeping track of the coordinates before everyone starts talking over the radio.

#Regional Weapons and Wildlife

Badlands adds region-specific equipment, including firearms ranging from the Lee-Enfield to modern SCR weapons. The 1.30 changelog also lists a Luger, an MP-18 submachine gun, golden revolver and KA-M variants, and melee options such as a scimitar and a jambiya dagger, plus local food like figs, halva, ayran and lassi.

Nasdara’s wildlife includes mouflons, desert monitors and territorial dogs, in the form of Dobermanns and German shepherds. Bohemia describes the dogs as guarding their former owners’ grounds alongside the infected, so approach unfamiliar properties with care. Nasdara also gets its own infected models.

#What’s Included in the DayZ Badlands Update?

The phrase “DayZ Badlands update” can refer to two related releases: the paid expansion and the accompanying Update 1.30.

Badlands provides the Nasdara expansion, while Update 1.30 changes the base game for everyone. Bohemia’s launch announcement lists motorbikes, selected firearms and assets with reworked skins, and quality-of-life improvements. The full changelog adds detail: more than 150 redrawn inventory icons, four new color variants each for the Mosin, SKS and CR-527, and infected that now aim their attacks at your head height on stairs and slopes.

Motorbikes are the part to understand before buying. The Jana 50 moped and the Bitrak 682 enduro arrived as part of the free update, so they spawn on Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal as well as Nasdara, though Bohemia says they appear more often in the desert. Their introduction also brought ragdoll physics for crashes, which gives you another reason to take your first ride carefully.

Bohemia also specified a full wipe of official servers across all platforms with 1.30. Community servers decide for themselves, so returning players should check their server’s reset notices before expecting an old character or base to be waiting for them.

#What Changed After Launch?

Bohemia released the first stable patch for 1.30 on October 21 (version 1.87 on consoles, 1.30.164200 on PC). It fixed infected and animals struggling to move through rebuildable structures, misplaced objects and road layouts in Nasdara, misconfigured motorbike headlights, silent dogs, and irrigation tunnel water that gave characters cholera.

Bohemia has said more patches will follow, along with seasonal events on select terrains in the coming months. When you’re getting a group together, make sure everyone has finished updating before you troubleshoot why someone can’t join.

#What Badlands Means for Your DayZ Server

Every DayZ server needs Update 1.30, whether it runs Nasdara or not. Servers enforce matching game versions by default, so players on 1.30 can’t join a server still on 1.29. Back up your server before updating, and check your mod list afterwards: Bohemia reworked the animation systems in 1.30 and has warned that some mods may need updates.

To run Nasdara, you point the server at the new mission, dayzOffline.nasdara, which ships with the 1.30 server files. Each map keeps its own mission folder, economy files and persistence, so switching to Nasdara starts a fresh world and leaves your Chernarus save where it is. Loot adjustments don’t carry over either.

As with Frostline and Sakhal, players need the Badlands expansion on their account to join a Nasdara server, while the free update is enough for Chernarus, Livonia or Sakhal. If only part of your community has bought Badlands, consider a second server for Nasdara and keep your main server where it is.

#How to Start Playing DayZ Badlands With Friends

For your first group session, a modest plan beats an ambitious expedition. Start with these four priorities:

  1. Check everyone has the required game and expansion. Badlands requires DayZ, so make sure nobody has bought only the add-on while expecting a standalone game. Anyone joining a Nasdara server needs Badlands on their account.
  2. Choose your server together. Agree on the server before launching and read its rules, especially when joining an established community.
  3. Make water a shared priority. Given Nasdara’s heat and water scarcity, plan your early exploration around supplies and shelter instead of chasing distant loot immediately.
  4. Pick one achievable first objective. Explore a nearby settlement, scout a potential shelter or investigate a rebuildable well. You can plan the longer journey once everyone has their bearings.

For a PC group planning regular sessions, Shockbyte’s DayZ server hosting is a starting point for organizing your own community. Confirm current Nasdara support and platform requirements before choosing a plan.

Badlands gives your group plenty of possible goals, whether you’d rather restore a settlement or follow radio clues underground. For the first night, though, getting everyone together with enough water is a perfectly respectable achievement.
