Is Enshrouded Cross Platform (Crossplay and Co-op Explained)

No, Enshrouded isn't cross platform at launch. Keen Games' technical director, Julien Koenen, told Eurogamer.de in July 2026 that crossplay won't be ready for the 1.0 release on October 15, 2026. PC players can share a world with up to 16 people, PS5 players can team up in groups of up to 8 with PS Plus, and the Xbox Series X|S version follows in spring 2027. The one feature linking PC and PS5 at launch is Adventure Sharing, which lets players on either platform visit each other's uploaded worlds.

Building a ridiculous castle is more fun when your friends can get inside it. Before the group chat starts picking character builds, settle one practical question: can everyone join the same Enshrouded world?

The 1.0 launch brings Enshrouded to PlayStation 5 for the first time, and that's where the confusion starts. "Coming to consoles" and "supporting crossplay" sound like the same announcement. Keen Games has confirmed the first and ruled out the second for launch day, so mixing them up could leave somebody with a copy they can't use with the rest of the group.

Only players on the same platform can share a world when 1.0 launches. Keen confirmed the platforms and dates in its June 25 announcement, and neither its official FAQ or the store listings mention crossplay.

#What Does Cross Platform Mean in Enshrouded?

People use "cross platform" to describe several different features. When you're organising multiplayer, it helps to know which one an announcement covers.

  • Multiplatform availability: The game sells on more than one platform. Each version may keep its own player base.
  • Crossplay: Players on different platforms join the same multiplayer session.
  • Cross-progression: Your character, equipment or saves carry over when you switch platforms.
  • Cross-platform sharing: Players on different platforms can visit or download each other's creations without playing together live.

At launch, Enshrouded offers the first and the last. PC and PS5 both get the game, and Adventure Sharing lets each side explore the other's uploaded worlds. Crossplay and cross-progression aren't part of 1.0.

#Is Enshrouded Going to Be Cross Platform?

Keen hasn't promised a date. In a July 2026 interview with Eurogamer.de, Koenen said the team wouldn't get crossplay finished for the 1.0 version, which suggests work on it continues after launch.

The next place to look is the 1.0 changelog, which Keen plans to publish in October. A crossplay announcement you can rely on will name the supported platform pairs and say whether dedicated servers are included.

#What About PC and PS5 Crossplay?

PC and PS5 both launch 1.0 on October 15, 2026. The PlayStation Store lists the release at 5:00 PM UTC, and the PS5 version includes PS5 Pro enhancements.

A shared release date doesn't put both platforms in the same world. At launch, PS5 players can join other PS5 players, and PC players can join other PC players. PS5 online play needs a PlayStation Plus subscription and caps sessions at 8 players, half the PC limit.

Adventure Sharing is the exception. Koenen confirmed PS5 players can use it from launch to share bases with PC players. You upload a copy of your world, and a friend on the other platform downloads it and explores. When Keen introduced the feature in the April 2026 Forging the Path update, visits were sightseeing only, with creator tools such as enemy spawners and traps planned for a later version.

#What About Xbox and PlayStation Crossplay?

Xbox players have the longest wait. Keen moved the Xbox Series X|S version to spring 2027, with CEO Jan Joeckel saying the team needed more time to reach the quality and performance it expects on Xbox.

Keen hasn't announced crossplay for Xbox with PC or PS5. For a group split between PS5 and Xbox, the release date and crossplay support both need to line up, and right now neither does.

#Is Enshrouded Cross Platform Multiplayer Available Through Servers?

No. The Enshrouded dedicated server runs as a separate Steam application and serves the Steam version of the game. A PS5 copy can't connect to it at launch, whichever company hosts it, because the game has no crossplay to connect through.

Treat any host advertising "PS5-ready" Enshrouded servers with caution until Keen confirms console support for them.

#What a Dedicated Server Helps With

Think about the usual player-hosted session: one friend opens the world, everyone joins, and the evening ends when that friend logs off.

A dedicated server runs separately from any player's game. While it's online, your group can drop into the shared world without waiting for the host. In its FAQ, Keen suggests a dedicated server for groups who don't want one person to stay online so friends can play.

For a PC group with clashing schedules, Enshrouded server hosting with Shockbyte keeps the world available whenever someone wants to play. Your builder can work on the base while everyone else sleeps, instead of waiting for the host to finish work.

#How to Play Enshrouded With Friends on PC

Enshrouded on PC supports up to 16 players in one world, according to its Steam page. You don't need a full lobby, though: a group of three can still split building, gathering and exploring.

On PC, the game sells through Steam. A friend who streams it through GeForce NOW or plays on a Steam Deck uses the same Steam copy, so they count as a PC player and can join your world.

To organise a PC session:

1. Get everyone on the same build. After a patch, a friend who hasn't updated can't join until they do. Expect this on October 15, when 1.0 arrives as a large update.

2. Choose how to host the world. A player-hosted session suits a group that always plays together. A dedicated server suits friends who want access at different times.

3. Set up access before inviting everyone. Pick a recognisable server name. Dedicated servers let you give each player group, such as admins, friends and guests, its own password and permissions, so you decide who can edit the base. Each password must be unique, and you should share them privately.

4. Have one friend test the connection. Fixing a connection problem with one person beats doing it while the whole group waits in voice chat.

5. Back up your world before 1.0. Keen hasn't announced a wipe for the 1.0 update, and it hasn't promised save compatibility either. Copy your save folder before October 15.

If someone can't connect, check their game version and password before changing anything else. A connection problem between two PC players has nothing to do with crossplay.

#Does Enshrouded Support Cross-Progression?

No. Keen hasn't announced cross-progression between PC and PS5, so plan on starting fresh if you buy a second copy on another platform.

On PC, your character already travels between worlds. According to Keen's FAQ, a character keeps its equipment, inventory, level and unlocked skills when you move to another server. Most crafting recipes and rescued NPCs stay with the world, so you'll need to free them again in a new one. That portability stops at the edge of the PC version.

Adventure Sharing doesn't change this: your character and save stay on the platform you built them on.

Before switching platforms, look for an announcement that covers character progress, world saves and transfer steps by name. A future crossplay patch might not answer all three.

#Enshrouded Crossplay FAQ

#How Many Players Can Play Enshrouded Together?

Up to 16 on PC and up to 8 on PS5. PS5 players need a PlayStation Plus subscription for online co-op.

#Can You Enable Crossplay in Enshrouded's Server Settings?

No. The server configuration file controls things like the server name, player groups and permissions, and it has no crossplay option. Be wary of guides that mention crossplay toggles, account linking or console invite codes for Enshrouded.

#Can PS5 Players Join an Existing Enshrouded PC Server?

Not at launch. If Keen adds crossplay later, check whether the announcement covers dedicated servers. Joining a friend's session and joining a rented server don't always get the same support.

#Do You Need to Rent a Server to Play With Friends?

No. On PC, one player can host a session at no extra cost, which works well when your group plays at the same times. A rented server earns its keep when friends want to drop in on their own schedules. A server keeps your world running online at all times, that's the advantage you have with Shockbyte.

#Before You Plan Your Next Co-op Session

If your whole group plays on PC, the only decision left is how you want to host your shared world.

If your group splits between PC and PS5, settle on one platform before October 15. Crossplay won't be there on launch night, and nobody wants to find that out with a fresh copy and a full voice channel. Xbox players have until spring 2027 to decide.

Once everyone has a compatible setup, you can get back to the important argument: whether the base needs another tower.
