How to Install Mods To Your Stardew Valley Client (SMAPI)

You can play a modded Stardew Valley client with the use of SMAPI, this is also necessary to join certain modded servers.

# Installing SMAPI

SMAPI is a modded client for Stardew Valley allowing you to install mods.

  1. Run Stardew Valley once on your PC so it completes its first-time setup.
  2. Download the latest version of SMAPI. SMAPI highlighting download button
  3. Extract the .zip file to your desired location.
  4. Double-click the installation file based on your Operating System, and follow the instructions. SMAPI downloading files choosing right install script
  5. Once you have specified a Stardew Valley file location, it will install SMAPI.
  6. Do not close the SMAPI installer, as you will need this to link to a game launcher.

# Linking SMAPI with Game Launch Clients

You will be required to link SMAPI with either Steam, Game Pass, or GOG Galaxy to boot it alongside Stardew Valley. We have tutorials on how to do this with each of these clients below.

# Installing Mods

Once your SMAPI client is setup, you can now install mods to your client. You can find Stardew Valley mods on NexusMods and Moddrop.

Important:

Ensure you download any mod dependencies, each website will notify you of these when downloading mods.

  1. Download your mods.
  2. Locate your local Stardew Valley Folder. Below are the default file locations for each Operating System.

  1. Open /mods folder. Stardew Valley mods folder
  2. Extract the downloaded mods to this folder, each mod should have its own folder. Stardew Valley local mods folder

# Uninstalling Mods

To uninstall any mods, all you have to do is delete its folder from within the /mods folder.
