There may be times when disruptive or unwanted players may join your Left 4 Dead 2 server. It is possible to kick or ban players either through your server's console or by using the in-game admin menu.

Important

You are required to be set as an admin on your L4D2 server to kick/ban players.

# With the In-Game Admin Menu

When connected to your server as an Administrator the in-game menu gives you access to a range of commands to help manage your server.

  1. Open the console by pressing the ` key.
  2. Enter sm_admin. to open the Admin Menu.
  3. Press the 1 key to open Player Commands.
  4. You can now Kick or Ban players, along with various other options. Just select the option and then the player when prompted.

# With the Shockbyte Console

This method can be used if you wish to kick, ban, or temporarily ban a player when you are not connected to the server.

  1. Access your control panel, and click Console.
  2. In the console you can enter the following commands:
  3. Kick - sm_kick <player username> [reason].
  4. Ban - sm_ban <player username> <duration(set to 9999999 to permanently ban)> [reason]
  5. Unban - sm_unban <steamID/IP>
