#What is the RL Craft Minecraft Modpack?

RLCraft, where "RL" stands for Real Life or Realism, is a hardcore survival, adventure, and RPG modpack focused on immersion and difficulty above all else. It's a curated set of mods, each individually adjusted to fit a specific vision, tied together with custom scripts that alter vanilla behaviour so it all runs as one experience. If you’ve seen it referred to as RL Craft, Minecraft RLCraft, or RLCraft Minecraft, these names all point to the same brutal modpack experience.

This isn't a casual Minecraft playthrough. RLCraft is deliberately unforgiving, and dying often is part of the deal, so come prepared. The RL Craft Minecraft modpack rewards patience, exploration, and slow, steady progress over rushing headfirst into danger.

Note for server owners: enable-command-block=true needs to be set in your server.properties file, otherwise certain structures won't generate properly and will be missing villagers. Check the included readme for servers for details.

#RLCraft Modpack Features

The RLCraft modpack transforms almost every part of the base game, from gathering your first materials to exploring dungeons and fighting dragons. Here are some of the biggest changes you’ll encounter.

#Survival mechanics:

• A thirst bar on top of the standard hunger system, plus temperature and heat that shift with season and biome, all courtesy of Simple Difficulty (Rough Life), the biggest single influence on the pack
• No health regen from eating (Rough Tweaks) - healing instead comes from salves, plaster, bandages, and craftable medikits that can be enchanted later
• Realistic torches that need manual lighting, burn down over time, and go out in the rain
• An item physics overhaul alongside Multi Mine, giving items real physics when thrown and letting blocks keep their mining progress
• A reworked sound engine for a more grounded, immersive atmosphere

#RPG and progression:

• Reskillable's leveling system - gear, tools, enchanting tables, anvils, and even some crops are gated behind skill levels (level 16 attack to use diamond gear, for example)
• The Level Up! Reloaded skill tree - focus on combat, crafting, or mining to unlock perks like quicker sprinting, more melee damage, softer falls, and stealth
• New enchantments, potions, and item quality tiers, backed by a reforging station for upgrading gear
• An XP Book that stores your XP safely so death doesn't wipe it out
• Baubles, bringing rings, amulets, and a craftable tool belt for extra storage and fast item swaps

#Combat and mobs:

• A full set of new weapons and tools, including Better Survival's ability-based options (warhammers, battle axes, throwable spears, daggers, nunchakus)
• New mobs courtesy of Lycanite's Mobs (biome-specific, some tameable), Ice and Fire dragons, and Infernal Mobs
• Infernal Mobs that can rarely spawn with magical traits and dangerous abilities, though they reward you with strong loot

• New underground biomes, expanded cave and cavern systems, and a revamped Nether
• Dynamic Trees that fall realistically and come down in one chop
• The Antique Atlas, an upgraded map for tagging locations and marking death spots
• Grapple hooks and hook shots for extra mobility options
• Randomized spawning across a 10,000 block radius, with F3 debug turned off so in-game tools take over

#Quests and extras:

• 340+ optional quests
• Waystones acting as Diablo-style waypoints for fast travel at an XP cost, and they can't be destroyed
• Wearable backpacks that use the chestplate slot, support enchanting and dyeing, and carry durability
• Custom crafting and smelting recipes, including breaking down tools and armor for materials and crafting chain mail, horse armor, and saddles
• Capped mob spawners that shut down after 10 kills but reward more XP and better loot in return
• Food Expansion for a much broader food selection

#Getting Started In RLCraft

Expect to die often during your first few hours. That doesn’t mean every death is unavoidable, though. Understanding a few of the pack’s basic systems will make the opening stages of Minecraft RL Craft much more manageable.

One important detail is that items aren’t always collected automatically. You’ll usually need to right-click them or crouch nearby to pick them up.

#Choose your biome wisely:

Temperature, heat, and biome-specific mobs make settling in the wrong spot risky - a desert in summer or mountains in winter without the right gear can spell trouble fast. Some biomes stay off-limits until you're properly geared up.

#Exploring can save your life:

Exploration drives much of the RL Craft Minecraft experience. Expect to find abandoned shelters along the way, some with beds, others stocked with useful loot.

#Start leveling immediately:

Even shears require Gathering and Farming at level 4 each. Spend levels as soon as you get them, since sleeping the first night or two probably won't be an option anyway. Reskillable lives in your inventory menu, and Level Up! opens with the L key.

#Top priority items:

• A Canteen or Water Bottle for drinking - cows or smelted sand into glass will do
• A flint and steel or match box for lighting torches - match boxes are quicker to get than iron, so grab sugarcane for paper
• Cobblestone and wood for building fireplaces in cold weather, lit with sticks or a flint and steel
• Water to cool off when it's too hot - a bucket of water should be an early priority
• Sheep for wool toward a bed (they no longer drop wool directly, so you'll need to find another route)

#Minecraft RL Craft the same as RLCraft?

#Is RLCraft one mod or a full modpack?

#Why do I keep dying?

Because RLCraft is built to be unfairly hard. Thirst, temperature swings, dangerous mobs, and no food-based healing all combine to make death a regular occurrence. Prep work, careful exploration, and consistent leveling are what keep you alive longer.

#How do I get my first tools going?

Flint tools come first. Grab flint from gravel and sticks from tree leaves, then turn flint into shards by right clicking it against stone. A stick and flint shard together make a flint knife, which cuts grass for fiber, and it builds up from there. Any recipe can be checked through your inventory's search bar.

#How does the skill system work?

Two separate systems exist. Reskillable (inventory menu) locks items and abilities behind skill requirements listed on each item. Level Up! Reloaded (L key) is a distinct tree for specialising in combat, crafting, or mining. Pick a specialisation at level 5 to start earning bonus XP.

#How do I control my spawn point?

Waystones handle that. Skip activating one if you want to avoid locking in a bad spawn location. A sleeping bag (3 wool) lets you sleep without setting your spawn.

#How do I manage heat and cold?

Campfires, wool clothing, potions, and ice armor all help regulate temperature. Plan ahead based on season and biome before you head out.

#What install and performance settings are recommended?

Installing through the CurseForge launcher is easiest - link your account, browse modpacks, find RLCraft, and install. On performance, bump RAM up to 3-4GB since the default 1GB won't be enough. Optifine G5 for 1.12.2 is recommended, but turn off "Fast Render" and keep at least internal shaders active to sidestep the black screen bug.
