Palworld Server Known Issues & Common Fixes

As Palworld is an early access game, there are a handful of common issues that affect many players and server owners. This guide will briefly summarize some of these issues, provide important context, and hopefully give you a solution to any problem you may experience with your Palworld server. Keep in mind that most of these problems will be fixed by the developers over time, so please keep an eye on their socials, like their Discord server, for patch notes and news. --- Palworld Server Lag and Memory Leaks Server lag and memory leaks on Palworld dedicated servers have improved greatly since the game's initial release in 2024, but it’s still not uncommon for performance issues to occur. Since Palworld is an early access game, some issues are still expected, especially after new updates. Occasionally, performance may drop unintentionally following an update, though these issues are usually patched and further optimizations are introduced in later updates. If you find that your server is lagging or experiencing a memory leak, there are a few options available to you: Recommendation 1: Set up scheduled server restarts Generally, it's standard practice for server owners to schedule server restarts every 12-24 hours. This improves server performance and resource usage over a longer period of time. However, if you're experiencing significant lag or a memory leak, you will benefit from scheduling more frequent restarts around every 2-3 hours instead. You can check our guide on how to set this up here: How to set up restarts with scheduled tasks Those experiencing memory leaks will benefit the most from scheduling frequent restarts every 2-3 hours. This gives your server time to properly save progress, shut down, and restart, allowing it to clear up resource usage before a crash can happen. Since crashes can sometimes lead to world rollbacks, setting up these restarts is the best way to avoid data loss while keeping your server running smoothly. Recommendation 2: Upgrade your server specifications The Grizzbolt plan offers RAM and CPU upgrade packages, which allocate more resources to your server. While this can help improve performance, it’s important to note that it may not be a permanent solution. See our guide on how to upgrade your server here. Server lag: Server lag can often be improved by upgrading your CPU priority, as this allocates more processing power to your server. However, if the lag began after a recent game update, it’s likely a new performance or optimization issue that needs to be resolved by Palworld developers in a future update. Memory leaks: Memory leak crashes can often be delayed by upgrading your plan to include more RAM, allowing the server to run longer before a crash occurs. However, keep in mind that if you’re experiencing a memory leak, the server will eventually run out of usable RAM regardless of how much it has been upgraded. Recommendation 3: Contact our support team If you would like, you can always reach out to our support team for assistance with identifying the cause of an issue on your server. ::ProseNote{title="Memory Leaks" description="Not every memory-related crash is caused by a memory leak. Memory leaks occur when RAM usage continually rises over time and never stabilizes. If you’re not sure if your server has a memory leak, reach out to our support team and provide details such as how often the crashes occur, whether scheduled restarts have helped and how often they're run, and how many players are online at the time of the crashes." appearance="error"} :: --- Server Not Found on Server List During Palworld’s initial release, many players experienced difficulty locating their desired server on the in-game server list. This was due to limited filtering options and the list only showing 200 entries at a time. Thankfully, this issue has since been resolved. However, if you still have trouble finding your server in the community server list, make sure to do the following: -  Set a server name: You will need to give your server a unique and searchable name in the Palworld Settings File for it to take effect in-game. Check our guide on this here. -  Search for the server correctly: You will need to search for your server in the Community Servers list instead of the Official Servers tab. Check our guide on this here. - Crossplay: All crossplay platforms are enabled on our servers by default. If you removed any of the crossplay platforms, they will need to be added back to the configuration file for users on those platforms to find the server. Check our guide on this here. You can also use direct connect to join your server as an alternative, which is detailed in our guide here. --- Connecting to Password Protected Servers The only way to make your Palworld server private is by adding a password. After adding a password to your server, players will not be able to join the server without first enabling the "Enter password" checkbox. If you attempt to connect to a private server without first clicking the "Enter password" box, you will be immediately disconnected with a message that says "No password has been entered". --- Character Data Wipes When Transferred If you upload a locally hosted world to your server, the host character's data will be completely wiped as the dedicated server itself will assume the role of the host character. Unfortunately, there is no known fix for this problem without getting very technical with player files. As a result of this issue, we recommend you store as much of the host player's items, Pals, and equipment into world storage before uploading it to your server, so those can at least be transferred. That being said, the host player's experience and technology advancements will be lost. --- Random World and Character Data Wipes Since Palworld’s release, dedicated servers have been known to occasionally experience full world and character data wipes. While the Palworld developers have improved the game so that this happens less frequently than before, it’s still not uncommon. Wipes tend to occur most often after game updates or server crashes. You can restore your data using the following options: -  Palworld Backups: Thankfully, the Palworld developers have made it so that dedicated servers automatically create and store backups in the save folder. Restoring these backups will take a few steps, especially if you’re not familiar with handling server files. We have a step-by-step guide on how to restore these backups here. -  Automatic Backups: If you’ve enabled automatic backups on your server, restoring them is much easier. It only takes one click through the control panel. We recommend enabling automatic backups if you haven’t already, to make future restoration easier. Check our guide on this here. How To Upload An Existing World To Your Palworld Server

If you had hosted a local world or single-player Palworld session before purchasing a dedicated server, you can transfer your existing world data over to your new server. ::ProseNote{title="Host player" description="The host player will lose their character progress when the save is transferred. This is because the dedicated server itself will assume the role of the host character. We recommend that the host place as many items or Pals into storage as possible before transferring the world." appearance="error"} :: --- Finding Local World Files You can directly access your save files from the open folder button found in-game. 1. Open Palworld, and click Start Game to view your world list. 2. Select your desired world, then click the folder icon in the bottom left. 3. You should now see your world files; keep them open. --- Uploading an Existing World Once you have located your existing Palworld world files, you can replace your server's existing world files with them. 1. Access your Control Panel and Stop your server. 2. Navigate to the Files tab on your server. 3. Navigate to , then open the last folder, which will usually be named a random string of characters. 4. Delete all the files within this folder; they will be replaced by your existing world files. If you'd like to save these files for future use, you can create a backup before deleting them. 5. Upload your existing world files to the same directory. Do not include the WorldOption.sav file. If you upload the WorldOption.sav file, it will override the server's configuration, and you will not be able to make edits with the Palworld Server Settings file. 6. Start your server.
