How to Restore Player Skins on an Offline Mode Minecraft Server

Offline mode servers allow cracked (non-premium) game clients to connect. Among many other downsides, one negative to Offline Mode servers is that they no longer communicate with Mojang skin servers. As a result, players will all appear as default Minecraft skins when they connect. Luckily, a plugin called SkinsRestorer exists, which does exactly as it sounds: it bridges the gap between Mojang skin servers and your offline Spigot server, restoring player skins. ::ProseNote{title="Please Note" description="This guide explains how to install a plugin on a Minecraft server. To install plugins, you must have a plugin-compatible server type running. If you are unsure if you are running a plugin-compatible server type, please visit this article for more information." appearance="danger"} :: Installing SkinsRestorer 1. Download the latest version of SkinsRestorer Navigate to the SkinsRestorer Modrinth page and download the latest version. You may need to download an older plugin version if you are using a really old version of Minecraft. 2. Access your server's control panel and navigate to the Files tab. 3. Select the folder. 4. Upload the SkinsRestorer jar file you downloaded. 5. Start your server. That's it! After your server boots up, Skin Restorer will be loaded up and working as expected.

The method of how you reset The Nether will depend on the server type you are running, such as Vanilla Minecraft, or running Spigot, Bukkit or Paper. ::ProseNote{title="Warning - Deleting Files" description="These steps involve deleting files. Deleted files cannot be recovered. If there is a chance you may want to recover the files, make sure you backup before deleting anything." appearance="error"} :: Resetting The Nether with a Vanilla, Forge, or Fabric Server You can reset The Nether by deleting the DIM-1 folder found within the server files. 1. How to Reset The End on your Minecraft Server

Whether you’ve explored all of the End Cities or are struggling to find another End Ship, resetting chunks of the End will allow you to re-explore brand new areas! Not only that, you can completely reset the Ender Dragon and fight it multiple times per world. --- Why You Cannot Fully Reset the End In the past, you could reset the End by deleting the DIM1 folder in your World folder. This no longer works as of version 1.9, and doing so will result in a broken End. The reason this occurs is that the End Portal and Crystals only generate on the first portal entry. Thankfully, there is a method to respawn the Ender Dragon in-game and regenerate the islands surrounding the main island. --- Respawning the Ender Dragon You can respawn the Ender Dragon by crafting and placing end crystals around the exit portal. 1. Craft four End Crystals. 2. Place an End Crystal on each side of The End exit portal. 3. The crystals around the portal will explode once the process is complete. That's it! You can now fight the respawned Ender Dragon. --- Trimming Chunks in the End Trimming chunks is the process of deleting chunks that you wish to be removed from your Minecraft world. This allows chunks to then be generated as brand new chunks when a player explores the area again. ::ProseNote{title="Important Reminder" description="This is a dangerous function that can damage worlds if used incorrectly. Make sure to create a backup of all your server worlds before proceeding." appearance="danger"} :: We recommend using MCASelector for Vanilla Chunk Trimming, we have a tutorial on how to use MCASelector here. When trimming the End, you will want to avoid trimming any of the Main Island chunks. Removing these chunks will also break the End. It is currently impossible to reset the Main Island. Once you have removed the chunks and uploaded/saved your changes appropriately, you may then load into the End and ensure everything looks good. New chunks should generate outside of the Main Island, and the Main Island should be exactly how you left it. Now you can explore your newly regenerated End!

How to Reset a Player's Data

In some cases, a player's inventory may be corrupted, or they may be stuck in a corrupted chunk. This could cause the player to be unable to log into the server and, in some cases, cause their game or the entire server to crash. Although resetting the world will fix this issue, this would mean the loss of any or all world changes, which may not be ideal for your server. An alternative way to fix this is to manually delete that player's playerdata (.dat) file, which will reset their inventory, location in the world, and other Vanilla Minecraft-based player data. As most plugin data is stored in the respective plugin folders, these will not be affected. --- How to Find and Reset a User's PlayerData You will be required to identify a player's UUID, then remove the DAT file from the server files. 1. Identify the player's UUID. You can do this by searching for a player's username on a website such as NameMC.com. ::ProseNote{title="What is a UUID?" description="A UUID is a unique string of numbers and letters, separated by various dashes. Each Minecraft player will have a unique UUID assigned to their account as a form of universal identification." appearance="discovery"} :: 2. Access your Control Panel and Shut Down your server. 3. Navigate to server files, and navigate to . 4. Select the DAT file that contains the player's UUID that you previously identified in step 1, and delete it. 5. Start your server.

How To Reduce Lag On A Forge Server

Forge is one of the most used server types for running a modded Minecraft server. Unlike other popular Minecraft server types, PaperMC and Spigot, Forge does not come with any optimizations to the Vanilla server. That being said, there are some mods that you can install on your Forge server to improve performance. Each of these mods focuses on tweaking different areas of the server to improve performance. ::ProseNote{title="Please Note" description="These mods may not be compatible with the mods already installed on your server. We recommend you generate a backup before installing any additional mods to an existing server. Should you run into any issues after installing one of these mods, we recommend that you remove it." appearance="danger"} :: Optimization Mods If you are unsure of how to install mods onto your Forge server, feel free to refer to our knowledgebase article on the matter here. Performant - Performant focuses on optimizing a handful of different parts of a server. It provides optimizations for AI/Entities as well as block and chunk ticks. AI Improvements - AI Improvements focuses on optimizing the AI of mobs and non-living entities in the game. Usage can provide a 50% to 80% decrease in CPU usage caused by the AI. Dynamic View - Dynamic View is a utility mod that will dynamically adjust the view distance on your server. When the server is lagging, this mod will reduce view and simulation distances to remedy server strain. Once the lag subsides, the mod will return the distances to their configured values. FerriteCore - FerriteCore attempts to reduce overall memory usage. Using it can reduce memory usage by up to 45%. Starlight - Starlight is a mod similar to Phosphor, but instead of simply optimizing the lighting engine, it was completely rewritten. Due to this, it is incompatible with Phosphor. FoamFix - FoamFix focuses on reducing memory usage and improving the TPS of the server. Both of which can be very helpful, as modded servers are much more resource-intensive. ServerCore - ServerCore is a mod that optimizes the overall Minecraft server. This includes optimizations to entities, mob spawning, and chunk ticking. Phosphor - Phosphor optimizes the server's lighting engine, which decreases the time taken to generate or load chunks, helping to reduce overall stuttering when traversing the world. When using these mods, you can expect a big boost in your server's performance.

How To Reduce Lag On A FabricMC Server

Unlike SpigotMC and PaperMC, FabricMC does not come with any optimizations to the Vanilla server to improve server performance. FabricMC is just the mod layer for your server, similar to how Bukkit is just the plugin layer that Spigot and Paper build off of. That being said, there are some mods you can install on your Fabric server to improve performance. Each of these mods focuses on tweaking different parts of the server to improve overall performance. ::ProseNote{title="Please Note" description="These mods may not be compatible with the mods already installed on your server. We recommend you generate a backup before installing any additional mods to an existing server. Should you run into any issues after installing one of these mods, we recommend that you remove it." appearance="danger"} :: Optimization Mods If you are unsure of how to install mods onto your Fabric server, please refer to our guide on the topic here. Lithium - Lithium targets optimizing tick processes and mob behaviours, improving AIs, and changing data structures within the server to be more optimized, which can lead to an average of 45% improvement in server TPS. Phosphor - Phosphor optimizes the server's lighting engine, which decreases the time taken to generate or load chunks, helping to reduce overall stuttering when traversing the world. ServerCore - ServerCore is a mod that optimizes the overall Minecraft server. This includes optimizations to entities, mob spawning, and chunk ticking. Hydrogen - Hydrogen focuses on reducing memory usage and improving the TPS of the server. Both of these can be very helpful as modded servers are much more resource-intensive. When using a combination of these mods, or all of them, you should expect to see a big improvement in server performance.
