How to Change Your Rust Server Description, Header Image and URL

Every Rust server has a server information page that can be viewed both in-game and on the server list. Rust allows server owners to configure and customise their server overview giving their players easy access to server information.

The main session page options most server owners wish to configure are the server URL, description, and header image.

Note: If your server's information page doesn't update after following this article, restart your game and your server.

Configuring your Rust Server Information Page

All settings related to your server's information page can be found and updated in the server.cfg file using your server's control panel.

  1. Access your control panel.
  2. Navigate to Files > Config Files.
  3. Click server.cfg.
  4. Make any required changes to server.url, server.description and server.headerimage.
    • If you wish to add a new line to server.description, simply add \n and then continue your message.
  5. Save the file, then navigate to your server Console.
  6. Enter the command server.readcfg to update your server with the changes made (this avoids the need to restart your server).

Getting a Link for a Rust Server Header Image

Rust requires a header image to be provided via URL. The recommended way to do this is to upload your server's header image to imgur.

Ensure that your header image matches the proper dimensions 512x256.

  1. Upload your desired header image to an image hosting service such as Imgur.
  2. Once uploaded, right-click the image and select Copy image address.
