How to Install Addons on Existing Minecraft Bedrock Worlds

Some server owners may wish to install new add-ons to their existing world on their Bedrock server. Although this is possible, it requires a few more steps than creating a new world with add-ons.

If you are using Java edition, please refer to our guide on Installing Data Packs on your Minecraft Server.

Download your Server's World

Before you can install add-ons on your existing Bedrock world, you must download it locally from your server.

  1. Access your control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Access your server files via FTP, we recommend using Filezilla.
  3. Navigate to the /worlds/ folder.
  4. Download your desired world folder.

Install Addons to your Existing World

After downloading your server's world folder, you must place it in your local world saves directory.

Note: You will be unable to edit a Bedrock World in-game if there are special characters in the world folder's name.
  1. Press Win + R on your keyboard.
  2. Enter the following file path in the run window: %localappdata%/Packages/Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalState/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds
  3. Place your server's world into this folder.
  4. Launch Minecraft Bedrock, and navigate to your Worlds page.
  5. Click the edit button next to your newly downloaded world.
  6. Click the Behavior Packs or Resource Packs button.
  7. Click My Packs, and activate your desired add-ons.

Re-Upload your Server's Modified World

Once you've completed installing add-ons to your world, you will need to re-upload it to your server.

  1. Access your server files via FTP, we recommend using Filezilla.
  2. Navigate to the /worlds/ folder.
  3. Rename your server's unmodified world folder.
  4. Upload the modified version of your server's world folder.
  5. Access your control panel and Start your server.
