How to Backup Your Valheim Characters

We have a video tutorial on how to backup Valheim characters:

All your game progress (inventory, skills) is stored within your character. This means you can take it between servers and worlds; however, it also means that if it gets corrupted, you can lose all of your progress.

As Valheim is in early access, it’s possible that your Character Data may get corrupted. This guide will assist you with making a backup of it, so that if it ever occurs, you can easily restore it.

How to Make a Backup of your Character Data

  1. Navigate to the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters folder on your computer.
  2. Backup the contents of this folder somewhere safe.
