How to Make your Left 4 Dead Server Private

Setting your Left 4 Dead 2 server to private is a great way to stop uninvited players from joining. The easiest way to do this is by giving a Steam Group exclusive access to your server.

Using the Control Panel

You can easily restrict server access to a certain Steam Group by adding the group ID to your server's Server.cfg file.

  1. Access your control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Go to Files > Config Files.
  3. Click Left 4 Dead 2 Server Configuration.
  4. Enter your Steam Group ID next to sv_steamgroup.
  5. Set sv_steamgroup_exclusive to 1.
  6. Click Save and Start your server.

If you would like any additional information on how to configure your server, you can find our other Left 4 Dead 2 articles here.
