Sons of the Forest dedicated servers support using existing world data from previous gameplay. This enables a seamless transition of progress to your new Shockbyte server. --- Locating a Local World To access a previously played world save, you must locate the world's save data within your local files. 1. A custom game mode in Sons of the Forest allows server owners to pick and choose various game settings available to them. This can be a great way to spruce up the gameplay experience that Sons of the Forest provides. Access your control panel and Stop your server. 2. Navigate to the Config tab and click on Dedicated Server Settings. 3. Set Save Slot to a new save number, that you have not used before. 4. Set Game Mode to Custom. 5. Save your changes. --- Configuring Custom Settings You can set custom game mode settings in the dedicatedserver.cfg file, found in your servers files. 1. Navigate to the Files tab. 2. Locate the directory and Open the dedicatedserver.cfg file. 3. Within the CustomGameModeSettings parameter, enter each of the game mode settings that you would like applied to your server with a new line. Setting your Sons of the Forest server to private allows you to restrict access to select players and prevent uninvited players from joining. Currently, the only way to make your Sons of the Forest server private is by setting a password for your server. --- Setting a Password You can set a password for your Sons of the Forest server in the control panel. 1. Open your Server Control Panel. 2. Navigate to Config and open Dedicated Server Settings. 3. Enter your desired server password in the Password field. The Generate button can be used to create a randomized password. 4. After configuring your Sons of the Forest server to your preference, you're all set to connect to your server. Sons of the Forest servers can be joined through the server list or direct connect. --- Connecting With the Server List 1. Launch Sons of the Forest. 2. Navigate to Multiplayer then click Join to open the server list. 3. Under Options, set the Source as Dedicated. 4. Enter the Server Name as the Filter. 5. Hover your cursor over the server, and click Join. Connecting with Direct Connect 1. Launch Sons of the Forest. 2. Navigate to Multiplayer then click Join to open the server list. 3. Select Direct at the bottom of the screen. 4. Enter your Server IP address and click Connect. Your server IP can be found in the server's control panel next to "IP Address". Click on Dedicated Server Settings. --- Configuring your Server Settings Once you have access to your server settings, you can make any required changes. The table below lists all of the available server settings. | Option | Description | | ----- | ----- | | Server Name | Set the name of the server. This is shown on the in-game server list. | | Server Password | Sets a password of the server used when connecting to a server. Leave this empty if you want your server to be open to the public. | | Save Slot | Sets the save slot that the server will use, this value can be integers greater than or equal to 1. | | Save Mode | Save mode has two options:<brContinue - Creates a new save on SaveSlot if the currently assigned save slot doesn't exist, or it will load the current save.<brNew - Will create a new game, and overwrite any game previously saved on the SaveSlot. If a server stops & starts, the previous save will be overwritten as long as this is set to new. | | Game Mode | Sets the gamemode difficulty of the server when creating a new save, this will not be used if loading an already existing save file. Options are: Normal, Hard, Hard Survival, Peaceful, Custom. When using Custom, the game settings will be used from CustomGameModeSettings parameter.
