How to Change your Minecraft Server Type With a New Instance

Server types allow you to set your Minecraft server to the version you would like to play, this includes Forge, Paper, Craftbukkit, Fabric and more.

Using the Shockbyte Panel, you can easily create a new Server Instance with a different server type. As a result, you can easily swap between your custom Server Instances depending on what you'd like your server to be used for at the time.

Please Note

Creating a new instance will not override your current server data. However, if you would like to completely change your current server instance, you can find our guide on how to do so here.

Creating a New Server Instance

If you would like to create a new server profile with a new server type, you will need to create a new Server Instance.

Please keep in mind that by default, you can only have up to 3 server instances at a time. However, you can purchase more server instance slots by following this guide.

Step 1:

Open your server's control panel

Step 2:

Click the Instances tab on the left-hand sidebar

Step 3:

Click the Create New Instance button

Click the Create New Instance button to start creating a new server type and server instance / server profile for your server
Step 4:

Configure your desired Server Type and Version settings

Select your desired server type, version, and build number before moving onto the next step
Step 5:

Give your new Server Instance a Name and Short Description

Give your new server instance profile a new name and short description to help identify it later
Step 6:

Review your new Server Instance, then click Finish

Review your new server instance setup then click finish to confirm the new information

Swapping Server Instances

After creating a new Server Instance with your desired server type installed, you will need to change your active instance in order to use it.

Step 1:

Open your server's control panel

Click the Instances tab on the left-hand sidebar

Click the instances tab on the left-hand sidebar
Step 3:

Click the Switch button next to your desired Server Instance to begin the transition

Click the switch button to start the transition to a different server instance
Step 4:

Confirm the switch over to the new Server Instance, then wait for the process to complete

Click the additional switch button to confirm the server instance swap

That's it! Once your server is back up, it will be running on your new instance.
