This guide explains how to install mods onto your Fabric client. Fabric, like Forge, is a version of Minecraft that allows for mods to be run on both the server and client. For clients, Fabric offers many mods such as minimaps, HUD improvements, OptiFine integrations, and more.
To install Fabric mods onto your game, you'll need to have Fabric installed onto your client. You can view our tutorial on how to install Fabric for your client here: How to install Fabric on your PC
You can install Fabric mods by uploading them to you mods folder, alongside the dependencies.
Download your desired mods.
You can find Fabric mods from various websites, such as CurseForge. For this example, we'll be installing Hwyla.
Many Fabric mods, including Hywla, require a dependency to work. Often, this would be Fabric API.
Dependencies are mods that are required to be installed for other mods to work. Many mods can work by themselves, but often you will find a mod that will not function unless its dependency is installed on the server/client. Often, dependencies don't affect gameplay.
Navigate to your Minecraft install folder, and open the mods folder.
Common Operating System install paths for Minecraft are stated below.
Windows: %AppData%/.minecraft
or C:/Users/(username)/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft
MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Linux: ~/.minecraft
Upload your downloaded mods to the mods folder.
Open Minecraft and start the game using your Fabric profile.
After loading your game and loading into a world, all of your mods should be accessible. Some mods will need to be installed on both the client and the server to work in multiplayer; you can read our guide on How to Install Fabric Mods on your Server to learn how to do this.
