Uploading your existing local save will allow you to continue your progress on a Shockbyte server with friends. To do this you will need to upload your existing The Forest save folder to your server. Locating your Existing Save Folder You can upload both Singleplayer and Multiplayer saves to your server, which are both located in The Forest's Appdata folder. 1. Using File Explorer, navigate to the directory. 2. Open the folder with a long string of numbers. 3. Select either Singleplayer or Multiplayer depending on what mode you've been playing on. 4. Make a note of this file location, as you will need it to upload the save to your server. Uploading an Existing Save Once you've located your save folder you will need to upload it to your server files. 1. Go to your Control Panel and Stop the server. 2. Connect to your server using FTP, we suggest using FileZilla. 3. Navigate to the directory. 4. Locate your local save folder in FileZilla, right-click it and Upload. Setting your Server's Active Save Slot Once you've uploaded your existing save you will need to change your server's active save slot. 1. Go to your Control Panel and Stop the server. 2. This token is generated through Steam and links your server to the Steam network, allowing players to connect easily. --- Why GSLT Keys Are Required Many games require you to have what is known as a Game Server Login Token to run your server. This ensures that servers are created by real people and helps maintain accountability if those servers violate the game’s Terms of Service. To generate a GSLT, your Steam account must: Not be banned or blocked. Not be limited. Have a qualifying registered phone attached. Own the game for which you are creating the key. Not have reached the cap of 1,000 GSLT keys. If your server is found to be breaking Valve’s ToS, both your server and Steam account may be banned by Valve. --- Generating a GSLT You can generate a GSLT by creating a new game server account through the Steam Community website. 1. Navigate to Steam Game Servers Account. 2. Scroll to the Create a new game server account section. 3. Enter the App ID of your game. You can find this by searching for your game on SteamDB. 4. Optionally, add a Memo to identify your token later. 5. Click Create.
