How to Install Mods on your Vintage Story Server

Modding is a great way for server owners to expand the amount of content available, or improve the quality of life on their Vintage Story server.

Vintage Story has its own database of mods which can be found at VSModDB, the great benefit of this is it allows for the automatic installation of mods using commands by searching the database online.

Installing Mods

Admins can install mods by using commands on their Vintage Story server, that are automatically taken from the VS Mod database.

  1. Navigate to VSModDB, and find a mod you would like to install.
  2. Take note of the name of the mod, this will be used for the install command. Please note, that this can also sometimes be the tag in the URL or the name of the file. Unfortunately, it varies between mods and there is no set practice.
  3. Connect to your server, and ensure that you have admin permissions.
  4. Enter the install command /moddb install [modID]. Typically, the ModID is the name of the mod without any spaces or special characters.
  5. If you require a specific version of a mod, the install command would be /moddb install [modID] [version].
  6. You will receive a message in chat to confirm that the mod install was successful.

Alternatively, you can use these same commands in the console section of your Multicraft control panel.
