How to Use a New or Existing Save File for your Vintage Story Server

Vintage Story server owners may want to use an existing save, or start a new one on their Shockbyte server. It is possible to change between multiple save files whenever you wish to either start a new world, have multiple worlds or when uploading an existing save.

Note: In order to upload an existing save to your server, you will need to upload it following this article.

Locating your Server's Save Files

Before setting your server's active save you will first need to know its name. All previously created save files can be found using an FTP client such as Filezilla. If you want to create a new world, this section can be skipped.

  1. Access your server files via FTP, we recommend using Filezilla.
  2. Navigate to /server_data/Saves.
  3. Make note of your desired saves name (not including .vsdbs).

Changing the Active Save

It is possible to change your server's active save at any point in the Vintage Story Server Settings section of your server's control panel.

  1. Access your control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Navigate to Files > Config Files.
  3. Click Vintage Story Server Settings.
  4. Enter your save files name in the World Name field. If you wish to create a new world, enter a new world name that currently does not exist in your saves folder.
  5. Save and Start your server.
