How to Configure your Vintage Story Server

All common Vintage Story server configuration options are conveniently located in the Vintage Story Server Settings section of your server's control panel. This file allows you to easily update various settings, including server name, welcome message, active save, playstyle, whitelist, and more.

Note: Before making any changes to any server settings, ensure that you Stop your server.

Accessing your Server Settings

Your primary server settings can easily be accessed using the Config Files section of your server's control panel.

  1. Access your control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Navigate to Files > Config Files.
  3. Click Vintage Story Server Settings.

Configuring your Server Settings

Once you have access to your server settings, you can make any required changes. The table below lists all of the available server settings.

Option Description
Automatic Updates Whether or not your server will automatically download any available updates on startup.
Server Name The form of identification of your server on the in-game server list.
Server Password The password that is required to connect to your server. If left empty, means there is no password required to connect.
Whitelist Enables the whitelist feature.
Server Description Sets a description to the server, that can allow players to read the details of the server.
Welcome Message Otherwise known as the message of the day, is the message given to players once they connect to your server.
Maximum Players Sets the maximum number of players that can connect to your server, this cannot exceed the maximum limit of your Shockbyte plan.
World Name Sets the name of the save file being used, and will generate a new world if a new world name has been entered.
World Seed Sets the seed used in world generation.
World Type

Sets the type of world that will be generated. Options being;

  • Standard
  • Superflat
World Play Style Sets the play style used by players. Available options:
  • Survive and Build
  • Creative Building
  • Exploration
  • Homosapiens
  • Wilderness Survival
Creative Mode Enables creative mode.
Player vs Player Enables Player vs Player combat.
Fire Spread Enables Fire Spread
Falling Blocks Enables Falling Blocks.
Online Mode If disabled, cracked players can connect to the server.
Display on Server List Decides if the server will display on the in-game server list.
Game Beta Sets the game branch the server will use.
Game Version Assigns the exact version of the Vintage story beta that you wish to play. Versions older than 1.11.11 are not recommended as those might not work as intended.
