How to Configure Custom Loading Messages on your Rust Server

While playing Rust, you may have encountered servers with custom-loading messages when connecting to a server. They can be used in a way to entertain, or advertise the server. As Vanilla Rust does not offer any way to configure these loading messages, you will need to install an Oxide plugin to accomplish this.

Configuring Custom Loading Messages

To set up custom loading messages on your Rust server, you must install and configure the Loading Messages plugin.

  1. Ensure Oxide is installed on your server by following this guide.
  2. Download the Loading Messages plugin.
  3. Access your control panel and Stop your server.
  4. Navigate to Files > FTP File Access and login.
  5. Navigate to /oxide/plugins and upload the Loading Messages plugin.
  6. Restart your server to generate plugin files, and then Stop your server again.
  7. Access the server FTP again, and navigate to /oxide/config and edit LoadingMessages.json.
  8. Modify the configuration to your liking, refer to the plugin page for more information on configuration options.
  9. Start your server.

Congratulations, your server will now have custom loading messages when players connect. If your changes don't take effect, ensure your plugin configuration is formatted correctly. Also, try restarting both your game client and your server.
