How to Configure your Counter Strike: Source Server

Counter-Strike: Source gives server owners a large variety of customisation to their server, with server owners being able to install mods, host custom events and game modes, and do basic moderation.

Shockbyte CS:S servers have a custom configuration file that makes basic levels of customisation extremely easy to do.


Locating Server Settings

Your CS: Source server settings can be found in the Config Files section of your server's control panel.

  1. Access your control panel.
  2. Navigate to Files > Config Files.
  3. Click Counter Strike: Source Server Settings.

This file contains all basic configuration options for a Counter-Strike: Source server, please refer to the table below to learn about each setting and the options it provides.

Option Description
Steam Updates If enabled, will update your server to the latest version on startup.
Server Name Sets a name to your server, which is displayed on the community server list.
Server Password Sets a password to your server, that players are required to enter when joining.
Map Sets the active map used by the server on startup.
Steam GSLT Token Sets a GSLT Token to the server. Required for the server to be fully functional as it confirms the legitimacy of the server.
Steam Beta Sets a specific Steam Beta for the server to use.
Insecure Sets the VAC protection on your server. If enabled, VAC-banned players can connect.
Cheats If enabled, allows cheats to be used by players.
Pure Pure means that players connecting to the server must match the server files.
RCON Password Sets a password for your server console to connect to RCON.
Install SourceMod If enabled, automatically installs SourceMod onto your server.
Uninstall SourceMod If enabled, automatically uninstalls SourceMod onto your server.
Maximum Players Sets the maximum number of players able to connect to your server, this cannot exceed your plan's maximum.
Tickrate Sets the tick rate of the server.
