How to Install a Custom Map on your DayZ server

Although it is fairly easy to upload a custom map mod onto your DayZ server, it takes some extra effort and configurations to be able to use it as a playable map.

Please note: The steps covered in this article can vary depending on the map you are looking to install. If the map you are installing provides its own installation steps, we recommend following those instead.

This article will explain this process and provide steps to follow when attempting to install a custom map onto your DayZ server.

Installing a Custom Map onto your DayZ Server

After installing your desired custom map onto your DayZ client and uploading it to your server, you will need to upload and configure the custom map's mission files as well in order to play on it.

Often times custom map creators provide their own installation steps for their maps. If this is the case for the map you're attempting to install, we highly recommend following those steps instead as they are likely to be more accurate for that unique map. Regardless, every custom map follows the same general installation process as described in this guide.

  1. Log in to your control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Download your desired custom map mod and upload it to your server by following this guide.
  3. Locate where they provide the mission files, you will need these too.
These are often available on places like GitHub linked either in the custom map's Steam Workshop page or on their community Discord.
  4. Download the relevant mission files, for this example we are downloading the Namalsk Island server files.
  5. Unzip the downloaded server files to your desktop.
  6. Connect to your server via FileZilla.
  7. Upload the key(s) from the downloaded server files into your server's keys folder.
  8. Upload the contents of the missions folder into your server's mpmissions folder.
  9. Locate the serverDZ.cfg file, right-click it, then click edit.
  10. In the opened config, locate the "class Missions" section as shown below.
  11. Change the template value to the name of one of the mission folders you uploaded earlier.
  12. Save the file, then return to FileZilla. Click Yes to upload your changes back to the server.
  13. Return to your server control panel and Start the server.

After the server finishes booting up, the custom map should be fully installed and configured for use.
