Without a GSLT Key your The Forest Server will be marked as anonymous. Although players will still be able to find your server in the server list, join and play on your server you may encounter issues such as player's inventories not saving so we recommend adding a GSLT key to your server when possible.
Why GSLT Keys Are Required
Many games require you to have what is known as a Game Server Login Token to run your server. This is done to ensure that servers are created by real people and to hold accountability to the owner if those servers violate the game's Server's Terms of Service.
In order to be able to generate a GSLT, you must have a Steam account which:
- Is not banned or blocked.
- Is not limited.
- Has a qualifying registered phone attached.
- Owns the game for the server you are making a key for.
- Has not reached the cap of 1,000 GSLT keys.
If your server is found to be breaking Valve's ToS, the server and your linked Steam account may be banned by Valve.
How to Obtain a GSLT Key
If you have a Steam account that meets Valve's requirements a GSLT can easily be obtained using the Steam website.
- Log into the Steam Community website.
- Navigate to Steam Game Servers Account.
- Enter
242760
(The Forest) into the App ID field. - Optionally add a note then click Create.
- Your GLTS key is the Login Token that will appear.
How to Add your GSLT Key
Once you have obtained a GSLT Key you can easily add it to your The Forest Server Settings file using your server's control panel.
- Navigate to your control panel and Stop your server.
- Navigate to Files > Config Files.
- Click The Forest Server Settings.
- Enter your GSLT Key in the Server Token field.
- Click Save and Start your server.
