How to Change the Game Mode on your Rust Server

Rust offers a variety of game modes for server owners to choose from when setting up their Rust server. Each game mode has slightly different server settings such as removing safe zones, setting a different max team size, allow players to not lose all their loot on death and a lot more.

You can find more information about what makes each Rust game mode unique on this wiki page.

Warning: Changing game mode resets all players and their inventory. It is not recommended to do mid-wipe.

Changing your Game Mode

Once you have decided which game mode you want to enable, you can set it in the Rust Server Settings section of your server's control panel.

  1. Access your control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Navigate to Files > Config Files.
  3. Select Rust Server Settings.
  4. Change the Game Mode property to your desired option.
  5. Save and Start your server.
