How to Install Sponge Plugins

By default, Forge server type only supports mods and cannot run plugins. However, the SpongeAPI makes it possible to use plugins in Forge servers through the SpongeForge mod.

Bukkit and Spigot plugins will NOT work on Forge servers with Sponge unless explicitly stated on the plugin page. As much as possible, only use install plugins downloaded from the official Sponge Ore website.
  1. If you haven't yet, install SpongeForge on your server. You may follow our guide here: How to Install Sponge on a Forge Server

  2. Download the plugins you wish to install from Ore (Sponge Plugins Repository)https://ore.spongepowered.org/
For the purpose of this tutorial, we will be using Nucleus plugin as an example.
    Download sponge plugin

Make sure that the plugins you download are compatible with the SpongeForge version installed on your server. Some plugins will also be downloaded as .ZIP files which you need to extract the jar file from.

  3. Upload the plugin jar ( .jar ) file into the mods folder in your server directory.

  4. Restart your server to complete the installation of the plugin.
