Minecraft 1.20 is scheduled to release late in 2023, which means there is still some time before players have access to this. However, alongside a recent snapshot release, it became possible to play an Experimental Minecraft Server. An Experimental Minecraft server allows you to test out and play with the new upcoming features in 1.20, like Archeology, Camels, Armour trimming and so much more!
To create an experimental world, both your server and client are required to use Snapshot 23w07a. Shockbyte's server control panel makes this extremely easy to do in just a few steps.
Creating an Experimental World
You will be required to generate a new world, using Snapshot 23w07a.
- Access your control panel and Stop your server.
- Change your server type to Snapshot: 1.19-23w07a (1.19 Pre-Release).
- Start your server to generate the required files, once your server startup has completed Stop your server again.
- Change your world name to generate a new world.
- Navigate to Files > Config Files.
- Open Server Settings.
- Locate the initial-enabled-packs option, and enter:
vanilla, update_1_20, bundle
. - Save and Start your server.
Enabling Snapshot Client
Once your server is ready, you will need to ensure your Minecraft client is using the snapshot to allow you to connect to your server.
- Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Navigate to Installations, and enable Snapshots.
- Select New installation.
- Assign the installation any name, and select snapshot 23w07a as the version.
