RCON gives you access to server-side settings and commands that normally require console access. Players must have a server's RCON password to execute commands. This article will show you how to set up and use RCON on your Team Fortress 2 Server.
If you do not know how to use TF2's in-game console, make sure to check out our article on enabling the in-game console.
SETTING UP RCON
RCON is automatically enabled with a random password. You can change this password, or use this to get access.
- Navigate to the server's control panel, stop the server and open Files > Config Files.
- Click on Team Fortress 2 Server Settings.
- Change the value of RCON Password field to the desired password.
- Press Save and Restart your server.
USING RCON
- Connect to your Server and open the in-game console.
- Type
rcon_password <password>
.
rcon_address <IP>
followed by rcon_password <password>
.You can now execute a command with RCON by typing rcon [command]
where [command]
is the command you would like to execute via RCON.
HOW TO DISABLE RCON
In case you are not using RCON, you can also always disable it. This is done by setting the password in the config to an empty value. Restarting your server will then disable RCON.
