Changing the Max Players and Team Size on Your Starbound Server

When you purchase a plan, your server is limited to an allocated amount of players. However, you can reduce the number of slots on your server at any time.

Changing the Max Player Amount on Your Server

  1. Log in to your server control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Navigate to Files > Config Files
  3. Click on Starbound Server Settings.
  4. Edit the max_players setting to the number of players you would like to allow on the server and press the Save button.
  5. Restart your server for changes to apply.
Note: The number of player slots cannot exceed your plan’s number of slots. In case you would like more slots, consider upgrading your server.

Changing the Max Team Size on Your Server

Starbound's maximum team size is limited to four players by default; you can change this to any value you wish.

  1. Log in to your server control panel and Stop your server.
  2. Navigate to Files > Config Files.
  3. Click on Starbound Server Config.
  4. Edit the MaxTeamSize value to the desired maximum capacity of a team and press Save.
  5. Restart your server for changes to apply.
Note: When setting your maximum team size higher than 4, all players that join your server will also need to edit their game config. More instructions on how to do this can be found below.

Changing the Max Team Size on Your Client
